Travel: South Africa With Gregg Wallace, ITV, 7.30pm

We’re used to seeing him in a studio kitchen presenting MasterChef, but Gregg Wallace has stepped out of his comfort zone and is taking a walk on the wild side in South Africa. In this brand new series, Wallace explores what South Africa has to offer, visiting the country’s most famous and best- loved landscapes and experience­s. In the first episode, the host goes on safari at the Amakhala Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape. After a drive through the reserve, Wallace camps out overnight and tastes his first potjies – a South African stew – cooked over a campfire. He also joins vet Will Fowlds and his team as they nurse a leopard.

Drama: Holby City, BBC1, 7.50pm

Beka’s New Year’s eve celebratio­ns with Jodie are short- lived when she is suddenly taken ill and rushed to hospital. Sacha doesn’t know how to deal with the news and buries his head in the sand. Elsewhere, Kian is on edge as Sarah Jane avoids his calls, and his stash is running out. He tries to persuade Jac he is fine when she worries their relationsh­ip is on the rocks. Meanwhile, Skylar ( Phoebe Pryce, left) and the other F1s are daunted by their first New Year’s night shift.

Film: Logan, Film4, 9pm

It’s 2029 and Wolverine is caring for an ailing Professor X on the Mexican border. His attempts to live a quiet life are dashed when a mutant child, who is being pursued by scientists working for a powerful corporatio­n, needs his help. The fantasy follow- up to The Wolverine, directed by James Mangold, stars Hugh Jackman and Dafne Keen ( above), Stephen Merchant and Richard E Grant.

Soap: Emmerdale, ITV, 7pm

Vinny ( Bradley Johnson, above left) spirals into panic when Liv has another seizure. With Liv’s life in danger, Vinny’s unsure how to handle the situation and makes a call to Paul ( Reece Dinsdale, above right). When Paul finally arrives, he quickly calls an ambulance before trying to calm Vinny down. Elsewhere, Dawn rules out a romance with Jamie after Will steps in and warns Jamie off.

Travel: Rick Stein’s Cornwall, BBC2, 6.30pm

This charming trip to Cornwall will be sure to tantalise your taste buds. Rick meets a family who make some of Britain’s finest Gouda cheese, and uses their creations to serve up a tortilla dish with caramelise­d apples and onions. In episode two of the second series, Stein visits the fishing village of Mevagissey, where he discovers the origins of the sea shanty and the history of the pilchard fishing industry, when shoals of pilchards were so big they would entice killer whales.
