Pol ‘ better than ever’

- By Chris Goulding

OWNER John Hales makes a convincing case for Politologue to make it back- to- back victories when he carries his colours in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham in March.

Before lining up at the Festival, Politologue runs in next Saturday’s Clarence House Chase at Ascot where he takes on Defi Du Seuil, winner of last year’s Grade One contest.

“Paul Nicholls is very, very pleased with his training,” said Hales.

“Last year he had a problem which Paul identified after he bled after the Tingle Creek. He changed his training routine and that has most definitely improved him and his level of performance is better than it’s ever been.”

Chacon Pour Soi tops the betting for the Champion Chase at 5- 4 with Paddy Power. Politologue gets a 5- 1 quote.

But Hales is not daunted about taking on the Willie Mullins- trained favourite.

“He was impressive when he won at Leopardstown, but he’s got to do it around Cheltenham,” said Hales.
