US veterans have lunch on Harry and Meghan

- By Mark Reynolds

PRINCE Harry and Meghan touched a group of former US servicemen and women by buying them lunch yesterday.

It was a thank-you for volunteering for a charity which helps other veterans settle into civilian life.

The Royal couple, who also sent a personal greeting, shared an Instagram snap of the volunteers with the meals.

Harry and Meghan made the donation The Mission Continues to mark Martin Luther King Jr Day.

Their note read: “In honour of this day of service, and in recognition of Dr Martin Luther King Jr and all that he stood for, we want to send our thanks and gratitude to the team at The Mission Continues.”

They signed off adding: “Stay safe, and keep up the great work.” The charity thanked the couple “for fuelling the volunteers... so they can continue their hard work”, adding: “We’re truly honoured to have their support.”

The gesture was made as Harry, 36, and Meghan, 39, continue to attempt to make their mark with the Archewell Foundation.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are living in a £10million Santa Barbara mansion in California with son Archie, having stepped back from royal duties last March. A spokesman said the couple “connect deeply” with the veterans’ charity mission. It was “a perfect example of how empathy, kindness, and compassion can change the world”.

Former serviceman Harry and Meghan were seen last June baking bread and sorting out food boxes to help a charity for the vulnerable in their home town.
