It’s basic instinct! Michael Douglas finally gets to hold his new grandson
IT’S too soon to know if this baby will develop the trademark Douglas dimple but proud grandpa Michael was delighted to finally cuddle the latest addition to the acting dynasty.
The Basic Instinct star, the son of movie legend Kirk, got to hold one-month-old Ryder T Douglas after Covid rules delayed their meeting.
Ryder is the son of Cameron Douglas, the 76-year-old actor’s oldest child, and his girlfriend Viviane Thibes. They also have three-year-old daughter Lua.
As he posted the black and white photo online, Michael wrote: “First time I’ve seen my month-old grandson, Ryder!”.
The snap triggered an immediate outpouring of congratulations both from celebrity friends and from cinema-goers.
Hollywood star Michelle Pfeiffer wrote: “Congratulations Michael!” while one fan said: “Congrats, he seems very comfortable in Grandpa’s care.”
Cameron, 42, is Michael’s only son with his first wife Diandra, 65. The veteran actor has two children with Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Cameron took to his Instagram account when he revealed the birth of his son last month. “Touch down planet earth. Welcome my Son... Ryder T. Douglas,” he told his 52,800 online followers.
The photo showed proud mother Viviane holding the newborn alongside her partner and their older child.
Michael and his Welsh actress wife Catherine, 51, then both took to the comments section to add their congratulations. They also joked that Ryder’s big sister Lua looked less than impressed with her baby brother. Catherine, who has son Dylan, 20, and daughter Carys, 17, with Michael, wrote: “Lua’s Face!” followed by lots of laughing emojis.
“Like ...... whatever ....... Hilarious! Congrats!!” she added.
“So happy for Viviane and you,” her husband wrote.
“Don’t think Lua is sure about this yet! What a holiday present.”
Michael – who also starred in Fatal Attraction and Wall Street – divorced from film producer Diandra in 1995 after almost 18 years of marriage.
He married Catherine five years later and she went on to win an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, for Chicago in 2003.
Their children now become uncle and aunt to the new arrival.
Kirk – famous for films such as Spartacus, Lust For Life and 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea – passed away last February at the age of 103.
