Parker: Red Devils won’t be laughing at us now

- By Matthew Dunn

FULHAM manager Scott Parker has admitted his side were “a laughing stock” at the start of the season.

But he does not feel that Manchester United will be giggling as they prepare to travel to Craven Cottage tonight.

In recent months, promoted Fulham have produced a fine win over Leicester followed by battling draws against Liverpool, Southampton and Tottenham. It is a remarkable turnaround for a team that had conceded 10 goals after just three games back in the top flight.

“People were blurred by the last time we were here [in the Premier League] and I understand why,” said Parker.

“We’ve done remarkably well considering we were a laughing stock in terms of people viewing us. The sort of performances we have put in during recent games – against good teams – has told the members of the squad they are capable of fighting in this division.

“That message has gone out to others outside the club as well.”

Another good display against United might also help persuade potential January signings to give Fulham a chance. “It is a tough market,” said Parker.

“Everybody is looking at the same types and you often find the names that are being mentioned are on everybody else’s lists.

“Of course, you are always looking for where you can take an advantage and where there is not competition for those sorts of players.

“We are working relentlessly to get the best deal for the football club and the best people that can help us and take us on.”
