Allardyce faces Snodgrass probe

WEST HAM 2 WEST BROM 1

SAM ALLARDYCE has sparked a Premier League investigation after letting slip that Robert Snodgrass missed last night’s game between West Ham and

West Brom following a gentleman’s agreement. Baggies boss Allardyce said the no-show from new signing Snodgrass, above, came after the clubs struck a deal for him not to face his old side. But the Premier League have launched a

probe over whether both clubs had breached regulations.

West Ham had initially refused to sanction his move until today – after the two sides had met – before agreeing to sell Snodgrass last week.

Allardyce had wanted the winger to play against Black Country rivals Wolves, which struggling Albion won 3-2 last Saturday.

Premier League rules, though, prevent the type of agreement over permanent transfers that the two clubs struck.

Speaking before his side’s defeat, Allardyce said: “The agreement between the clubs was that he would not be allowed to play this game. We could only get the deal done with that agreement.”

When pressed on Snodgrass’ absence after the defeat, Allardyce said: “Before I answer anything that might cause me or West Ham trouble I’ll wait and see what the Premier League say. I’ve got bigger things to worry about.”

West Ham manager David Moyes said: “I’m not sure it’s any of my business. I don’t think it’s anyone else’s. The Premier League have to do what they have to do.”

Moyes’ men made it four wins on the spin and have now won their first four games of a calendar year for only the second time in their history.

Defeat left West Brom 19th, five points from safety.
