Cases are falling, but not as fast as before
THERE may be signs England’s lockdown is working – but cases are not falling fast enough to relax restrictions, experts say.
The latest infection survey by Imperial College London estimates that one in 64 people were infected from January 6 to 22.
Scientists said infections appeared to plateau, followed by a “shallow decline” from the middle of the month.
Prof Paul Elliott, chair in epidemiology and public health medicine at Imperial, said: “We need to keep an eye on what’s happening – even though we’re seeing this suggestion of a downtick, it’s by no means as fast as we saw in lockdown one.”
