PROPERTIES

ACTORS love a souvenir and, as any wardrobe mistress or properties master will tell you, things often disappear from film sets. Movie legend Glenn Close revealed this week that she managed to keep every single one of her Cruella de Vil costumes from the 101 Dalmatians film series, by making it part of the deal.

Interviewed recently on American TV, the multi-awardwinning star, 73, said: “I got in my contract that I got to keep all of my costumes that I wore in the movie.

“Then when they found out how expensive they were, they were unhappy that it was in my contract. They wanted to make another copy, another set, for me. I said no!”

Close’s puppy-stealing baddie wore a dazzling array of outfits, most notably a fur-lined blood-red cape, designed by the Oscar-winning costume designer Anthony Powell and made by Barbara Matera.

The extravagant collection is now housed at Indiana University.

While every actor is not as savvy as Close in their negotiations, plenty have taken home iconic, or downright strange, pieces of memorabilia.
