A LUCKY gambler has wads of reasons to shake off lockdown gloom after scooping a £20million National Lottery jackpot.

A single ticketholder matched all six main numbers in January 9’s Must Be Won draw, operator Camelot announced yesterday.

The jackpot has been verified and paid out, setting the winner – who ticked the no publicity box – up for a life of luxury.

The lucky player had main balls 9, 21, 23, 30, 35, 38 on their ticket. Bonus was 53.

It was one of two Lotto jackpots won this month. A player also banked £2million on January 13 when the numbers 1, 8, 12, 16, 18 and 42 with bonus 4 came up.

Camelot’s Andy Carter said of the January 9 game: “We’re delighted the winner of this amazing prize has come forward and we will now support them as they start to enjoy their life-changing win.

“In the current situation we’re encouraging everyone to check their tickets online or by downloading the National Lottery app.”

The UK’s biggest lottery prize so far was a £170.2m EuroMillions jackpot won on October 8 2019.The winner was never revealed.

It eclipsed the previous British record, set in July 2011, when North Ayrshire couple Colin and Chris-Weir won £161.6million.

In August 2012, Adrian and Gillian Bayford, of Haverhill, Suffolk, trousered £148million.

On the Lotto, David and Carol Martin, from Hawick in the Scottish Borders, got £33million after splitting a £66million jackpot with another ticketholder in 2016.
