FRANCIS BACKS RED ALERT

TOMAS FRANCIS wants Six Nations referees to keep handing out red cards if players are being put in danger.

The Wales prop was wiped out by Ireland flanker Peter O’Mahony at a ruck when the teams met in round one. O’Mahony was sent off and banned for three weeks.

A similar incident when Wales beat Scotland at Murrayfiel­d on Saturday led to home prop Zander Fagerson being dismissed.

Wales have made the most of their extra man to record back-to-back victories and stay on course for Triple Crown and Grand Slam glory. Wayne Pivac’s side host England in Cardiff in round three.

“The referees gave us a clear message about foul play and that the head was protected, said Exeter’s Francis.

“It is something where they have set the tone for the future of rugby and if they want to protect the players, then they will have to [give red cards].”

VIRAT KOHLI has avoided punishment for his angry exchanges with the umpires during the second Test.

The Indian skipper described the match as “the perfect game” after he led his side to a 317-run win, which included a five-wicket haul for debutant Axar Patel and was full of his now familiar on-field antics.

Whether it was getting into the face of the England players, the umpires or whipping up the crowd, Kohli was at the heart of it and it worked a treat.
