How do I get in? Sign of a bungling developer

Celebrities ponder the ups and downs of the pandemic in a witty, revealing and thoroughly cheering campaign Author of Covid Thoughts

DEVELOPERS have been ridiculed after they built a row of houses behind a street sign – which blocked the gate to one property.

People took to social media in bewilderment at the bodge job, labelling those responsible as “brain dead”.

The entrance to one of the townhouses in Shirehampton, Bristol, is behind the existing

Station Road sign, and getting into the front garden would involve squeezing past or stepping over it.

One Reddit user said: “It would have been zero effort to build the gate on the right-hand side.

Another said: “A bit of a pain when they are having a new washing machine delivered. It’s amazing the developers didn’t apply to have the sign moved. As a buyer it would make me wonder what else they botched.”

James commented on Facebook: “That’s modern builders. Put it where your told.

“When the building I work in was refurbed, the builders stuck on all the toilet-roll holders exactly where they were marked on the wall which was right above a handrail so no getting any toilet roll.”

A Rightmove advert for the new three-bedroom homes suggests the frontage has been finished for some months, as they were marketed in September with a similar image.

There has been no response as yet from the developer and Bristol City Council clarifying why the sign has not been moved.

RALPH Fiennes has vowed to carry on being the boss of Bond after Daniel Craig hangs up his Walther PPK.

The 58-year-old actor wants to remain as MI6 leader M once Craig finishes his spell as 007 in No Time To Die, set for release in October.

He joined the franchise as Lieutenant Colonel Gareth Mallory in 2012 and the character assumed the role of M following the untimely death of the outgoing Head of MI6, played by Dame Judi Dench, in Skyfall.

Fiennes, promoting his latest role in The Dig, told Total Film: “If anyone from Eon Films is listening, I’m very keen to continue training the new Bond. I love playing M, and I love being part of that franchise.”

WHILE recovering from breast cancer a decade ago, my life with Lymphoedema began. Not knowing anything about the condition, which develops because of a build-up of fluid in the body’s tissues when the lymphatic system that normally drains them has been damaged, I started working with leading British expert Professor Peter Mortimer. And so began our mission to highlight one of the most neglected conditions in healthcare.

Lymphoedema sufferers are especially susceptible to Covid so, to raise awareness during the pandemic, I approached some of the celebrities I have met in my career as a photographer, to help me produce a book, Covid Thoughts.

The response was extraordinary. I worried that everyone would be buried in their own troubles. In fact, they were happy to help – their contributions came flooding in: uplifting, moving, powerful and a great advert for how the human spirit can soar in the face of adversity.

I photographed each contributor, mostly through FaceTime, and feel honoured to have received such support during lockdown.

Now we are finally looking ahead to the end of the pandemic, Dame Judi Dench writes in the preface: “We must learn from this and start to live in harmony with nature and all the creatures with whom we share the planet.”
