More to life than studies, says Edward

- By Richard Palmer Royal Correspondent

PRINCE Edward has admitted his children have been like “chalk and cheese” when it comes to home schooling.

He was stressing the importance of all pupils not giving up extracurricular activity to catch up with studies post-lockdown. Edward said preparing young people for the world is not “just about academics”. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award trustee said Lady Louise Windsor, 17, was terribly frustrated at not being able to go to school, while James, Viscount Severn, 13, loved being at home. He said: “Louise had her GCSEs interrupted last year, so we went through that whole pain of just having all that suddenly taken away.

“And so she sort of struggles a bit with the online learning because she’d much prefer to be with everyone else.

“My younger one frankly thinks being at home and online is fantastic.” Speaking on Sky News as his father Prince Philip recovers from an infection, Edward, left, said: “For so many, their academic careers have been completely disrupted. The longer term impact is going to be immense. At the end of the day we’re talking about what we can give young people that’s really going to help…how they are going to be ready for the world. And that’s not just about academics.”
