● IPSWICH have named Paul Cook as their new manager. The former Wigan and Portsmouth boss has signed a contract until the summer of 2023 to succeed Paul Lambert, who left the League One club on Sunday. Cook, 54, was in the stands to watch Ipswich at Accrington last night and is due to take his team training for the first time tomorrow.

● BOURNEMOUTH and Watford have been charged with misconduct by the FA following an injury-time brawl on Saturday. Watford’s Joao Pedro and Bournemouth’s Jack Wilshere were sent off after a mass melee. The clubs have until Friday to give a response.

● NEWCASTLE were dealt a massive blow yesterday when key forwards Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron were ruled out until April with injuries.

GARETH BALE will tell Real Madrid he expects them to honour his mega salary even if he leaves this summer.

The Wales superstar is back in form after scoring twice in Tottenham’s 4-0 win over Burnley.

He is on loan from Madrid, who are splitting his £600,000-a-week contract, with Spurs paying half.

Bale, 31, is open to staying next term, but sources close to the star believe a decision on his future is not due until the end of the season.

And they insist he will not take a pay cut in the final year of his deal with the Spanish club.

It means Real would have to heavily subsidise Bale’s salary if he returns on loan to Tottenham, or agree a significant pay-off to leave permanently.

LEEDS are under no pressure to cash in on Liverpool transfer target Raphinha.

Raphinha, with five goals and five assists, is on the Reds’ radar because of his recent dazzling displays. But Leeds’ bank balance has been transformed by returning to the top flight and they do not have to sell any of their stars for the first time since they went into financial free fall in 2002.
