Bring Britain back to live...

Stars urge us to enjoy real events again

- By Cyril Dixon

CLAUDIA Winkleman and Clare Balding want us all to remember the thrill of an unforgettable concert, sports match or festival – and get back out there.

The TV hosts threw their weight behind the UK’s £84billion live events industry as it cranks up after being mothballed.

Other big names helping the #WeCreateExperiences social media campaign include comic Rory Bremner, singer Ronan Keating, model Poppy Delevingne and sport icons Daley Thompson and Jonny Wilkinson.

Organisers want to stress that venues will soon be able to stage festivals, sporting events and conferences on more traditional lines.

Simon Hughes, of One Industry One Voice, which is co-ordinating the push, said: “Life is all about experiences and the UK live events industry is the best in the world at creating great experiences to share with our families, our friends and our community.

Safety

“We are ready to get back to work but we recognise this is a journey of recovery and safety is paramount, so live experiences will return gradually and only when it is safe to do so.”

The stars will today urge people to book tickets and “commit to supporting safety measures put in place by organisers”. Big venues and events involved include the Isle of Wight, Reading and Leeds festivals, the Kia Oval and Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge ground. A survey of 2,000 for One Industry One Voice found 72 per cent have missed an event in lockdown and 84 per cent would agree to safety rules.
