I feel for him a lot.. Titchmarsh backs pal Prince Charles in Oprah TV row

- By Ashleigh Rainbird

ALAN Titchmarsh has defended his friend Prince Charles after Harry and Meghan’s bombshell TV interview.

The TV gardener, a regular visitor to the Prince’s Highgrove home for 30 years, feels sorry for him.

Alan, 71, said: “He is an amazing man. I feel for him a lot.

“I think it’s sad he’s had to be put through what he’s been put through.

“But he’s got enough people, I hope, who value what he does and who can see what he does and can field for him.

“He’s a man who has dedicated his life to his country, and changed lives – he’s reached the parts that many other organisations can’t reach.

“There are so many young people in Britain who will stand up and tell you what he has done for them. That’s worth listening to.”

Alan first became friends with Charles after they worked together on radio and TV programmes.

In 2011 the Prince took him on a tour of Highgrove for the BBC. Last year they discussed their shared love of music for a Classic FM broadcast.

Daily Express columnist Alan previously announced he was boycotting Netflix drama The Crown in support of his pal. And he jumped to his defence again following the Sussexes’ OprahWinfrey interview.

In it Prince Harry, 36, claimed his dad, 72, had stopped taking his calls after he and Meghan, 39, moved to

Canada last year and he felt “let down”. He added that his father was “trapped” in the Royal Family.

Alan spoke as he prepares for his new series Spring Into Summer to bounce on to our screens on Easter Monday. In it he celebrates the changing seasons with celebrity guests including Michael Ball, Ainsley Harriot and Twiggy.

The gardener’s last series – Grow Your Own At Home – was filmed during the first lockdown when wife Alison performed camera duties.

He joked: “She’s retired. She’s now very critical of TV camera operators.

“She’ll watch them and go, ‘Ooh, that could do with a close up, there’.” ● Spring Into Summer is on ITV on Monday at 8pm.
