Cleaner faces £100k legal bill after ex claims he faked fall

- By Paul Keogh

A CLEANER could be hit with a £100,000 court bill after his ex-girlfriend claimed he staged an injury compensation bid by throwing himself off a ladder at work.

Mihail Mihov, 34, sued bosses at Lancashire’s Yew Tree Dairy, claiming he injured his knees in a 2016 fall.

Mr Mihov, who said he was putting rubbish into a skip when he fell, claimed he suffered permanent damage and sued for £527,000.

But he dropped his case last year after his ex-girlfriend Kristiyana Gancheva rang his former bosses was lying.

Miss Gancheva said her ex had boasted to pals at a barbecue about staging an accident at the dairy, based in Skelmersdale, and said he near Wigan. Mr Mihov, originally from Bulgaria, could now be hit with a £100,000 bill after his former bosses asked the High Court to rule his aborted claim was “fundamentally dishonest”. But giving evidence yesterday, Mr Mihov insisted the accident happened and claimed he could be the victim of a “grudge”.

The court heard Mr Mihov had been in a relationship with Miss Gancheva when the incident happened. But by the time he filed his claim he had moved back to Bulgaria, where he lives with a new partner and their child.

The dairy’s barrister David Callow said there was no explanation for him dropping the claim, other than that it had been “fraudulent” from the start. He added Mr Mihov should now pay Yew Tree’s £100,000 costs.

The judge reserved a decision on the case.
