Teacher burgled terrified neighbour

- By Chris Riches

A “TRAUMATISED” woman is still scared to be at home alone after a neighbour broke into her flat looking for cash to pay a call girl.

Teacher Adam Morrison had invited the sex worker to his £300,000 apartment, but she wanted more money.

So, armed with a chisel and wearing a face mask, he broke into the flat next door, a court heard.

But after rifling neighbour Grace Coyne’s chest of drawers and pocketing items of lingerie, he was overpowered by her boyfriend SamWright.

Morrison, 27, of Didsbury, Greater Manchester, told police he had been drinking all day and had taken drugs bought off the dark web, but needed extra cash to pay the call girl and “forgot” he took the underwear.

At Manchester Crown Court, the computer science teacher admitted aggravated burglary and was jailed for six years.

Judge Alan Conrad QC told him: “This was a terrifying experience for your victims. Mr Wright behaved extremely bravely in what must have been a terrifying situation for him.”

Morrison booked the sex worker last July before he was due to take up a teaching post in Vietnam. Prosecutor

Richard Orme said Miss Coyne was awoken by a noise and saw a dark figure in the hallway.

He said: “Miss Coyne screamed to her boyfriend. Sam Wright immediately jumped out of bed and ran up to the intruder and punched him to the head.”

The men struggled while Miss Coyne called police. She later told police she was “traumatised” by the break-in.

Miss Coyne said: “I have not stayed in the flat alone since and even with my partner I feel nervous. I now wake up four to five times a night to turn on the lights to check there is no one there.”

Morrison was banned from contacting Miss Coyne indefinitely.
