WE’D ONLY BEEN ON A FEW DATES
Genevieve Norton, 35, got pregnant after just a few dates with Jeff Thomas, 39. Now the couple, from Blackpool, are expecting their first baby in May
I had known about Jeff for several years because he was friends with my friends, but it wasn’t until lockdown that we started chatting on Facebook about his personal training business. We were both really into exercise and being healthy, so we agreed to go on a date in August when restrictions eased.
We really hit it off so we formed a bubble and things got serious between us quite quickly. We booked a holiday to Turkey and though I didn’t find out until months later, I got pregnant on that trip. We’d been taking precautions so I wasn’t expecting it at all. I was feeling tired and queasy, but I thought I might have anaemia. I didn’t find out I was pregnant until I was nearly 20 weeks.
It was a huge shock but we both had the same attitude that everything happens for a reason.
In January we officially moved in together but it has been a rough ride. I suffered a big bleed and thought I might lose the baby. We were having to self-isolate at the time and the hospital refused to see me. But once we were out of isolation I booked a private scan and we were both relieved to hear the baby’s heartbeat.
This little pandemic baby was just meant to be. It was a shock at first, especially being with someone new, but our relationship has gone from strength to strength ever since and now we’re closer than ever.
Our baby is due at the end of May and hopefully restrictions will have eased by then so we can share our little bundle with the world.
