Double McGinn and tonic for Clarke

-

CHE ADAMS’ first goal for his country capped a perfect night as Scotland’s World Cup qualifiers got up and running.

Goal machine John McGinn also grabbed his 10th and 11th in 18 outings under boss Steve Clarke, both assisted by the excellent Kieran Tierney.

Ryan Fraser headed the fourth, a third goal in three Scotland games for him, as the home team crushed the

Faroes. But it was the promise of much more to come from Adams, plus a defeat for Austria against Denmark in Vienna, that brought the biggest smile to Clarke’s face as his side went second in the group.

Scotland made a flying start through McGinn. It was not as spectacular as his overhead effort against Austria last week, but it was a clinical finish after good work by Tierney.

Craig Gordon, in for David Marshall after the Derby goalkeeper’s mistake against Israel on Sunday, justified his call-up with a superb save from Hendriksson Olsen.

On 53 minutes, the Tierney-McGinn axis delivered again for the Scots as the Aston Villa midfielder headed in from seven yards out. Adams, on only his second start, made it 3-0 with a brilliant strike from distance before Fraser nodded the fourth. SCOTLAND (3-5-2): Gordon 7; McTominay 7, Hanley 6, Tierney 8; Fraser 7, McGinn 8, McLean 6, McGregor 7, Robertson 7; Dykes 5 (Nisbet 68, 6), Adams 6 (McBurnie 73). Goals: McGinn 7, 53, Adams 60, Fraser 70.
