Sex boasts ordeal of woman gym worker
A GYM worker has won £6,000 compensation after a male colleague boasted in front of her that he and his partner “go for it every night of the week”.
Charlotte Newby said she felt “uncomfortable” after commercial director David Sanders said he “wouldn’t take any less” than a daily sexual encounter.
An employment tribunal ruled he had sexually harassed her by making the comments.
The virtual hearing was told she was a student while working part time at Functional Training Company, a gym in Ipswich.
On a Wednesday evening in April 2018 Sanders, who claimed he had “no recollection of such a conversation”, was chatting with her and two male colleagues.
Charlotte told the tribunal Sanders made her feel uncomfortable when he said: “I used to get loads of women when I was
younger before I met Katy. And you wouldn’t believe what I used to do with them, but our sex is good. Me and Katy go for it every night of the week. I wouldn’t take any less.”
Charlotte, who was later dismissed from her job due to work-related matters, said one male colleague in the group “looked a little uncomfortable and didn’t respond”. She said the
co-worker reassured her “not all men are like that”.
Employment judge Christopher Finlay decided the conversation most likely happened and said: “We find that [these comments] did violate her dignity and created a hostile and offensive environment for her.”
The payout was for injury to feelings following discrimination by harassment related to her sex.
