HOW DAY OF SORROW WILL UNFOLD AT WINDSOR

PRINCE Philip’s funeral will take place at 3pm today at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.

Buckingham Palace has released key timings for the day, which will be broadcast on TV and radio across several channels.

11am

The coffin, which will be covered with Philip’s personal standard along with his sword, naval cap and a wreath, will be moved from the Private Chapel to the Inner Hall of Windsor Castle by members of The Queen’s Company, 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards.

2.10pm to 2.40pm

The Dean of Windsor will say prayers before leaving by car to the chapel.

The Land Rover, upon which the coffin will be placed, will enter the Quadrangle via George IV Gate where military bands at the site will begin to play music.

Those members of the Royal Family and Prince Philip’s relatives who are not taking part in the procession will leave Windsor Castle by car to make the journey to the chapel.

2.40pm

Members of Philip’s household, including the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge, will take up their positions in the procession and the bands will cease playing music.

The coffin will emerge from the State Entrance and be placed on to the Land Rover.

The Queen, accompanie­d by a lady-in-waiting, will leave from 1

3 the Sovereign’s Entrance, in the State Bentley, as the national anthem is played.

The monarch is expected to pause for a “final moment of reflection” while gazing at the coffin from her moving car.

2.45pm

The procession, which is planned to take eight minutes, will set off to the sound of a gun salute by The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery.

The Queen will be received by the Dean of Windsor who will show the mourners to their seats.

2.53pm

The Land Rover carrying the coffin will arrive at the foot of the West Steps of the chapel.

It will be carried up the steps and halt on the second landing as members of the Royal Family take their positions.

The national minute’s silence, signalled by a gun fired by The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, will take place.

Afterwards, the Dean of Windsor and the Archbishop of Canterbury will receive the coffin and the doors to St George’s Chapel will close.

The Land Rover, service chiefs, realm defence advisers, bodyguards, military knights of Windsor, along with representa­tives of services, will leave in silence and the service will begin.

The funeral service is set to 7 last 50 minutes and it will be conducted by the Dean of Windsor.
