Let my stalker ordeal aid other victims says TV weather girl Ruth

- By Katie-Ann Gupwell

TV weather presenter Ruth Dodsworth has thanked well-wishers for their “overwhelming” support after her ex was jailed for abusing her during their marriage.

Ruth said she hoped revealing her nineyear ordeal in which Jonathan Wignall spied on, controlled and attacked her will help others caught in a similar situation.

Wignall, 54, was this week jailed for three years after he admitted stalking and controlling and coercive behaviour.

Cardiff Crown Court was told the twisted nightclub boss would turn up when the ITV Wales presenter was filming, read her phone messages and mail, and stop her seeing friends and family.

Fantasist

He repeatedly accused her of infidelity, stood outside loos while she used them.

He also made her request lunch money and fitted a tracking device to her car.

He also slapped and pushed her, breaking three ribs.

Ruth, 45, said in a statement: “I’d just like to say, from the bottom of my heart – thank you. I’m overwhelmed by the love and support. I never wanted my story to be public.

“On reflection I’m glad. If just one person can relate, can feel assured that they are not alone, it has all been worth it.”

When Wignall was arrested for harassment, he told police: “Harassment? But she’s my wife.”

Judge Daniel Williams told him: “You affect the air of a respectable beleaguered but successful businessman but you are not.

“You are a fantasist with a fragile ego which makes you an unrepentant possessive bully.”
