LINE OF DUTY Clue that proves Kate lives on

Line of Duty video suggests Kate and Jo are both alive

- By Nicola Methven

LINE of Duty fans believe they have hard evidence that DI Kate Fleming survives the tense shoot-out shown in Sunday’s jaw-dropping cliffhanger.

Eagle-eyed viewers looking for answers found a clip from an early trailer for series six that appeared to reveal the outcome of the gun fight.

Actress Vicky McClure, 37, who plays Kate, was giving nothing away yesterday as she was spotted heading to the shops – without back-up.

But fans were busy online sharing the short promotion video which tends to suggest that instead of being shot by PC Ryan Pilkington, Kate ends up greeting AC-12 officers as they arrive on the scene.

The teaser was originally posted on social media by showrunner Jed Mercurio but yesterday it was spreading like wildfire, with one online theorist writing: “It’s okay Kate fans.”

At the start of the clip, AC-12 boss Det Supt Ted Hastings is attempting to persuade someone to give themselves up, which fans speculate may well be Pilkington, played by Gregory Piper.

Hastings tells the suspect: “You’ll be treated fairly with the full protection of the law.” His words are followed by a close-up of DI Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) looking grim, followed by the crucial long shot of Kate and acting Det Supt Jo Davidson (Kelly MacDonald), with her hands up.

The video ends with a shot of Kate – wearing the same clothes she had on when she went to the lorry park meeting – touching her gun nervously.

On Sunday night, a whopping 9.9million viewers saw Kate drive to the dodgy rendez-vous with Davidson – making the episode the most-watched drama instalment of 2021 so far.

It is the second only to Oprah Winfrey’s ITV interview with Harry and Meghan in terms of viewing figures.

Yesterday actor Adrian Dunbar, who plays Ted Hastings, refused to reveal any details during a Good Morning Britain appearance – but he hinted that viewers should be looking out for a “clue”.

He said: “A lot of Line of Duty fans know what is going on.There is a clue out there as to what happens next. We’re all looking forward to how that plays out over the next few days.” Asked if Vicky had signed up for series seven, he joked: “I’d love to help you but I’d have to kill you.” Dunbar, 62, explained that he is given lots of help with hiding plot twists: “The BBC have people who send me notes, and they say: ‘You cannot talk about this, this and this.’”

He added that the final episode’s script is not shared widely and is held back until the very last minute to avoid leaks.

But the actor’s praise for Ted’s “old-fashioned” values of honesty, loyalty and integrity suggests he will never turn rat.
