Terror knifeman kills police worker

- By Peter Allen in Paris

A KNIFEMAN screaming “Allahu Akbar” stabbed a police worker to death at her station yesterday.

The victim, identified only as Stephanie M, was slashed twice in the throat by a Tunisian delivery driver.

The unnamed 36-year-old was shot dead by officers in the Paris suburb – scene of previous terror attacks.

Admin officer Stephanie, 59, had “popped out of the station to change the parking disc on her car” when she was pounced on in the lobby.

Investigators said the killer scouted the site before attacking in daylight.

He arrived in France illegally in 2009 but was given leave to remain in 2019.

Francois Bersani, a police union official, said the knifeman slipped into the building before shouting “Allahu Akbar”, meaning “God is greatest” in Arabic.

France is under Covid lockdown but there is free movement during the day within 10km of home.

President Emmanuel Macron – in Chad for the funeral of its late leader Idriss Deby – said France would “not give up...the fight against Islamist terrorism”.

He also spoke of the victim, a mother of two: “Stephanie was killed in her Rambouillet police station, in the already damaged area ofYvelines. The nation is with her family, her colleagues and the police.”

President Macron said specialist anti-terror prosecutors were leading the investigation because of suspicions the killer had links with Al-Qaeda or Isis.

France has suffered six years of Islamist outrages, including the beheading of a teacher last October.

The country suffered its single deadliest terror atrocity when 130 people were killed in Paris by suicide bombers in 2015.

Earlier that year gunmen murdered 12 at Charlie Hebdo magazine.
