Refuses to say sorry to fans

- From Christopher Bucktin US Editor in Palm Beach, Florida

MANCHESTER United co-owner Avram Glazer refused to say sorry to fans for his role in the doomed European Super League after he was tracked down to his Florida mansion.

The reclusive billionaire was approached by the Daily Express and asked: “Are you now going to sell the club, as it’s clear you have no understanding of your club’s supporters or British fans?”

Mr Glazer, 60, snapped back: “No comment.” He got into his white Jeep Wrangler with wife Jill and sped off.

He had been staying inside his £16million Palm Beach mansion after the football scandal broke and was approached for comment close to his home. Meanwhile, United supporters blockaded the club’s Carrington training complex yesterday in protest.

Lifelong fan John Lester, 43, of Oldham, said: “Pimping the club out into a European Super League was to them about one thing – money.

“The Glazers are clueless about what the club means to fans. It is shameful.”

Avram, also co-chairman, and his co-owner brother Joel stood to receive up to £258million for signing up to the 12-team rebel league that had included Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham. It stirred up a huge backlash from fans, players, former professionals, the Government and FA president PrinceWilliam.

Former United player Gary Neville, 46, blasted: “The Glazers have no place in Manchester any more.”

Two members of a consortium, Lord O’Neill and Sir Paul Marshall, who once tried to drive the US family out of Old Trafford, yesterday urged them to give up their controlling stake and said they must make fundamental changes.
