DAVID MOYES believes it is time for English and Scottish football to come together and create a British league.

The West Ham manager was relieved plans for the European Super League fell apart at the start of this week.

But while the Scot was fundamentally opposed to the proposals, he accepts changes can be made to the game – including opening the door for Rangers and Celtic to join the Premier League.

Moyes, right, said: “Reform is needed, change is needed in some way.

“The Premier League has a brilliant product, but you hear the top clubs talking about too many games, so could we have Premier League 1 and Premier League 2?

“Could we invite Rangers and Celtic to Premier League 2? Why can we not unite the UK? Why do we have to be England and Scotland and not unite it? Why can it not be a pyramid that allows teams in the Scottish leagues to get into Premier League 2?

“I think more money would filter down if Rangers and Celtic could be given an opportunity to come in. “We are all in Brexit now, we have our country, so why not? “Rangers and Celtic would only enhance what is happening in England.

“I’m not sure that I am totally enjoying what I am hearing about the new European format. “We have a lot of really big clubs in England at the moment.

“Why would we not try to make what we have got into something new and maybe take a few less teams, maybe two out of the Premier League and put in Premier League 2.” The battle for Champions League places goes on today when fifth-placed West Ham host Chelsea, who are fourth by virtue of goal difference.

Moyes confirmed that Jesse Lingard will be fit despite limping out of last Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at Newcastle.

The on-loan Manchester United forward, who has scored nine goals in 10 matches since joining the Hammers in January, this week spoke movingly about struggling with his mental health during lockdown.

Moyes said: spoke up.

“Everybody who is going through these times has had some issues and we are really fortunate in football that we can come in and go to work and run about with our pals, play football and train.

“His performances, his football, he is great fun around the training ground and sometimes you know, yeah he is a big kid, but sometimes we like that. Sometimes it is good to be big kids!”

“It is good that
