Strad’s still tuned up

- By The Scout (Chris Goulding)

STRADIVARIUS, one of the giants of staying races, can warm up for a crack at a fourth Ascot Gold Cup victory by taking today’s Longines Sagaro Stakes at the Berkshire track.

Now in his final season, STRADIVARIUS (2.45, treble) will not need to be at the top of his game as the seven-year-old has 10lb in hand of his nearest rival, Nayef Road, on official ratings.

John Gosden, who has faultlessly guided the great warrior’s career, also has the answer with HAQEEQY (3.55, nap) in the CharlieWaller Paradise Stakes.

The impressive winner of last month’s Lincoln looks just the type that his trainer excels with in handicaps before stepping up in grade.

Charlie Appleby can continue his unbroken wave of success with CREATIVE FLAIR (2.10, nb).

The filly had her credentials enhanced after Statement, second behind her at Sandown last season, was recently runner up to Alcohol Free in a Group Three at Newbury.

Over in Ireland, KEMBOY (5.55) can make it back-to-back victories in the Ladbrokes Punchestown Gold Cup.

Last year the meeting was cancelled due to coronavirus but two years ago the gelding proved too strong for dual Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Al Boum Photo.

Paul Nicholls sends over Clan Des Obeaux, fresh from his win at Aintree, and the gelding represents the danger if repeating his recent running.

CROSSHILL (5.20) is the value at 14-1 in the Irish Mirror Hurdle.

He slammed Vanillier, today’s second favourite, at this track in October.
