I’m deeply sorry and will get professional help, says star Noel after groping claims
NOEL Clarke has apologised for his actions and revealed he will be seeking professional help after sexual harassment allegations were made against him.
Some 20 women have made claims of abuse, harassment and bullying against the writer, producer and actor, 45.
Clarke said: “I vehemently deny any sexual misconduct or criminal wrongdoing.
“Recent reports, however, have made it clear to me that some of my actions have affected people in ways I did not intend or realise.
“To those individuals, I am deeply sorry. I will be seeking professional help to educate myself and change for the better.”
ITV axed the final episode of drama Viewpoint last night following the allegations against Clarke.
Fellow broadcaster Sky have now halted all work with the star, it was reported.
Allegations
It has also emerged that Bafta handed Clarke his recent Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema award despite knowing that multiple allegations of misconduct were stacking up against him.
The organisation insisted it did not have the power to investigate the serious allegations itself, and so had no choice but to hand over the gong.
Bafta has now suspended Clarke over the harassment claims.
Regarding the decision to move Viewpoint to ITV Hub only, the channel said it was “no longer appropriate” to screen the fifth episode of the series in light of the “very serious nature” of the allegations.
An ITV source said that no complaints had been made about
Clarke’s behaviour making of the series.
Sky yesterday halted all work on the fourth series of Clarke’s hit drama Bulletproof, which is in pre-production and due to shoot later this year.
A statement said: “Sky stands against all forms of sexual harassment and bullying and takes any allegations of this nature extremely seriously. We have halted Noel Clarke’s involvement in any productions.”
An investigation by a national newspaper contained testimonies from 20 women claiming to have been abused by the star on a variety of film and TV productions.
The alleged abuse includes touching or groping, sexually inappropriate behaviour on set, and taking and sharing sexually explicit pictures and videos without consent.
Clarke has denied all the allegations apart from one – that he commented inappropriately about an actress’s bottom. He says he later apologised.
