Britney, 39, is controlled by her dad ‘because she has dementia’
BRITNEY Spears’s father Jamie claims she has dementia and so needs to be totally under his supervision, an explosive documentary reveals.
The astonishing allegation is made by journalist Mobeen Azhar in The Battle for Britney: Fans, Cash and a Conservatorship.
He said: “There are two options. Britney might have dementia. I’m not a doctor but, if that’s the case, the world isn’t aware of that.
“The other option is more sinister – that she doesn’t have dementia but the conservatorship team suggested she has to push the conservatorship through. That’s terrifying.”
Conservatorship is roughly the US equivalent of UK power of attorney, which in this case hands full control of the star’s life to her father.
Mobeen has uncovered documents that appear to specify the condition as the reason for strict legal constraints Britney, 39, has been living under since her mental breakdown in 2007.
He says fan sites say they have got hold of some of the paperwork.
He added: “On the second page there’s a section where you have to tick a box justifying the reason for the conservatorship and the box ticked says ‘the order is related to dementia placement or treatment as specified’.”
The Bafta-winning producer, whose film airs on BBC2 this Wednesday,
believes it is “unlikely” Britney was diagnosed with the degenerative disease. He says this would make her a “medical anomaly”. Dementia in under-65s accounts for fewer than five per cent of cases in the US.
Britney was recently the subject of another film – Framing Britney Spears – which focused on the conservatorship and the #FreeBritney movement
it sparked among fans. The singer, who has two sons Sean and Jayden with ex-husband Kevin Federline, has asked a judge to remove her father from controlling her finances in favour of care professional Jodi Montgomery.
Jodi is already Britney’s personal conservator after Jamie, 68, stepped down in 2019 due to health reasons but he still controls her estate. The star
is set to speak about it in court for the first time on June 23. Blogger Perez Hilton believes some of the legal constraints have protected her.
He said: “If she didn’t have a conservatorship in place, I would be concerned she would be dead.” ●●The Battle for Britney: Fans, Cash and a Conservatorship, BBC iPlayer and BBC Two, Wednesday at 9pm.
