Elton’s get fit tip: walk sideways in the pool

- By Mark Jefferies

ELTON John is in his best shape for years after exercising in lockdown so he can watch his two children grow up.

The singer, 74, says his new routine includes walking in the swimming pool at his estate in Old Windsor, Berks.

He said: “I have done 42 miles since the beginning of the year sideways. And yeah, I feel great for it.

“It comes down to what do you want for the rest of your life? I have got two kids I want to see and be around as much as possible. ‘So in that case Elton, get yourself together, do as you’re told’ and you will see the benefits of it.”

Pleasure

The singer, who has two sons, Zachary, 10, and Elijah, eight, with husband David Furnish, is also playing tennis and eating healthily.

He said: “A lot of my shame comes from the way I have put on weight and stuff like that. It’s been with me all my life. I go up and down like a bloody yo-yo. But I have really concentrated on that during lockdown.

“I am Type B diabetic so I have to watch what I eat. There is no point moaning about it, you have got to do something about it and have sat down with the doctor or a nutritionist and say, ‘How do I do it?’”

Elton told Watford FC captain Troy Deeney’s podcast –Deeney Talks – owning the club in the 1970s and 80s saved him.

He said: “Watford kept me sane and was one of the greatest highlights of my life. I am still associated with the club. I call every week. I like it when we play on a Friday. If we win the weekend is fantastic. It has brought me so much pleasure, so much love from the fans. If I’d not had that I’d have probably gone mad.”
