Smile Kate... we’re on our own YouTube channel!

- By Richard Palmer Royal Correspondent

PRINCE William and Kate were the king and queen of social media yesterday when they launched a YouTube channel showing them at work and play.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s debut on the video-sharing website was an out-take from a message recorded earlier this year.

Wills, 38, turns to Kate, 39, in their office at Sandringham, Norfolk, points at the camera and says: “By the way, you need to be careful what you say now – because these guys are filming everything.” A giggling Kate replies: “I know!” The rest of the slick, 25-second clip, set to dance tune Your Waves, by Kicktracks, features a video montage of the couple.

Images include Kate trying her hand at archery during their 2016 trip to Bhutan, shearing a sheep on a visit to a Lake District farm and meeting a group of young children.

The Prince is seen flying a helicopter,

visiting homeless charity The Passage and promoting his Earthshot environmental prize with Sir David Attenborough at Kensington Palace.

The couple are also shown together on St Patrick’s Day and looking at a billboard showcasing the Duchess’s Hold Still photographic project.

Buckingham Palace already has a YouTube channel but this new one will allow the Cambridges to show their own clips. Kensington Palace, the couple’s official London residence, has also rebranded its Instagram page to bring it in line with their new YouTube channel.

William and Kate launched it despite concerns about abuse on other platforms.

It is the latest in a series of moves on to social media by the Royal Family.

On their 10th wedding anniversary last week, the Cambridges released a similarly professionally shot video of their family at their Norfolk home, Anmer Hall, and on sand dunes at a nearby beach.

In September Prince Charles launched RE:TV. The platform for short films, with Charles as editor-in-chief, was born out of his Sustainable Markets Initiative to inform and inspire people about sustainability.

And the Queen uses YouTube to promote the British monarchy. Her channel was launched in 2007 after the concept of the video sharing site was explained by granddaughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.
