It’s May madness... and it’s set to stay
SOMEWHERE over the rainbow... we can only hope there are days ahead that are warm and dry.
For while the skies looked stunning over Glastonbury Tor in Somerset yesterday, there was not much good weather news to brighten our day.
After a Bank Holiday battered by wind, downpours and record low temperatures, the May madness continued, bringing us sunshine, rain and even snow. The sun came out in Blackpool and gave little Grace Bacon the chance to enjoy the tulips at Stanley Park.
But villagers and sheep in Ffair-Rhos, Ceredigion, woke up to a white-out.
Forecasters say the confusing weather conditions are set to stay for a while longer.
The Met Office’s Graham Madge said: “The UK has experienced unseasonably cold conditions for the last few weeks, and despite a temporary rise this weekend, that trend looks likely to continue.
“This weekend we will see a spell of wet and windy weather spread eastwards across the UK.
“This will raise temperatures as the system contains air from further south.”
But before that rain and hill snow will move south across Scotland today while rain will be clearing from the far south of England. Other parts of the country will have sunny spells with showers developing in a few places.
Temperatures in the North could reach highs of 48F and lows of 36F. The South will be warmer – up to 54F. But that compares to an average May high of 61F.
Meanwhile the weekend will be a wash-out. A Weather Outlook forecaster said: “Sunday is looking wet in much of the country.”
