Shops say their beer supply’s all tapped out

- By News Reporter By Steph Spyro

CORNER shops are running out of beer as drinkers – and their pints – flood back to the pubs.

Shopkeepers are complaining of major shortages, particularly of Budweiser and Heineken, according to The Grocer retail trade magazine.

One ale-deprived shopkeeper warned that a “perfect storm” has been created by “a lack of drivers, an aluminium shortage and brewers diverting beer into kegs [for pubs and bars] as opposed to canning it”.

A senior industry source said wholesalers are “not getting the stock they need”, while another claimed that delivery levels are down “50 per cent for some of the biggest brands”.

A Heineken spokeswoman said: “All customers have been made aware of the short-term supply challenges and we are doing everything to increase capacity including sourcing additional beer from our European network.”

BLUEBELLS have turned woodland into a haven for people and dogs alike.

But away from woods near Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, above, and Haywards Heath, Sussex, left, it has been cold and blustery.

The mercury is due to hit 68F (20C) from tomorrow, but wet and windy weather has been forecast today for

Northern and Southwest regions.

A yellow warning is in place for South Wales, where more than four inches of rain may fall this weekend.

Across Britain tomorrow, skies will begin to clear with the temperature rising to 61F (16C) in the North and up to 68F (20C) in parts of the South. Forecasters at the Weather Outlook said: “Tomorrow, Northern and Western regions will have a mix of sunny intervals and showers.

“Central and Eastern England will perhaps have warm spells of sunshine in the morning. But Monday and Tuesday are looking cool and showery in all areas.”
