FIVE MOSCATOS WITH FRESH FIZZ
Stormhoek Fairtrade Moscato Rosé (£5, 5.5%) This sparkling South African moscato from The Co-op is an absolute steal at the price. Delicious aromas of cherry and strawberry are offset by a fresh fizz and it’s vegan and Fairtrade to boot! Available from The Co-op.
Barefoot Pink Moscato (£6.75, 9%)
Juicy and refreshing, this sun-kissed Californian moscato abounds with the flavours and aromas of nectarines and oranges, rounded off with just a hint of cherry and raspberry and followed by a lingering citrus finish. Fantastic with spicy food and ideal to drink chilled on a sunny day. I love the label, too. Available from Sainsbury’s.
Bartenura (£10, 5%) An Italian moscato that typifies the historic grape’s powerful aromas and rich, lingering fruit flavours; in this case melon, tangerine and some pear. Slightly fizzy with fresh, acidic highlights, and also kosher. Available from Sainsbury’s.
Mrs Wigley Moscato 50cl (£11.99, 4.5%) Hailing from Australia’s McLaren Vale, another juicy, fragrant wine with a rose pink colour and creamy texture. Made using red frontignac grapes, you’ll enjoy flavours and aromas of lychees, cranberry and raspberries. The fruity sweetness is balanced with bright acidity to produce a refreshing frizzante style. Available from Ocado.
Moscato d’Asti Sourgal Elio Perrone 2020 (£8.95, 5%)
Thirteen hectares of vineyards 1,100 feet above sea level to the south of Asti in north-western Italy have been in the Perrone families since the 19th century. Grapes benefit from plenty of sunshine and conditions are ideal for moscato, here bursting with floral scents underpinned by delicate aromas of peach. Available from The Wine Society.
