- By Ted Hennessey

MURDER squad detectives have been given more time to question a man arrested over the death of police community support officer Julia James.

The 53-year-old mother was found dead with severe head injuries in a wood near her home in Snowdown, Kent.

Police who arrested a man in his 20s from the Canterbury area on Friday were granted a 36-hour extension to his detention, until tonight.

Officers have been searching a house on Sunshine Corner Avenue in Aylesham which is linked to their enquiries.

Assistant Chief Constable Tom Richards, of Kent Police, said: “We continue to urge anyone with information, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, to contact us.

“If you were in the Snowdown area between 1pm and 4.30pm on Tuesday April 27, please contact us.

Tribute

“This includes anyone local who may have seen something out of place at the time or who came across someone who made them feel uneasy – such as feeling compelled to cross the road or change the route they were walking.”

Julia, described as “fiercely loyal” by her family, died while out walking her dog Toby.

Police colleagues issued a photo of her in the clothes she was wearing when she was killed: a light blue waterproof coat, blue jeans and dark brown wellies.

Dover MP Natalie Elphicke added a floral tribute for Julia at a mining memorial in Aylesham Market Square with the message: “Thank you for your police service to our country and our community. May you rest in peace.”
