Heroic teen’s mother would be so proud

-

WE OFTEN talk about how snowflakey and self-indulgent the young are these days but that certainly doesn’t apply across the board.

Step forward the utterly heroic Marcus Evans, 19, who twice ran into a burning house, fighting appalling conditions of heat and smoke, to save the life of a 79-year-old woman who was unconscious inside.

Marcus’s mother had previously died of cancer: “I know how it feels to lose your mother,” he said. “I don’t want anyone to go through that.”

What a tribute to a woman who has raised such an outstanding young man.

POOR Lourdes: how do you rebel against a mother who has been there, done that and got the T-shirt years before you were even born? Madonna’s eldest child has been posing in a G-string and tattoo, thus proving that a combo of G-string and tattoo is a look to be avoided. Not mad keen on the dowdy hotel room backdrop either. Surely with mummy’s millions she could do a little better?

TOM CRUISE became the latest celeb to indulge in a woke and meaningless gesture when he returned three Golden Globe awards in the wake of allegations too tedious to repeat here. The only surprise is that Cruise won any Golden Globes at all: he is excellent at running fast, but acting? It brings to mind what Dorothy Shaw said of her friend Lorelei Lee’s thespian skills in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. She had three expressions. Joy, sorrow and indigestion.

JENNIFER Lopez and Ben Affleck have got together after a break of 17 years: well done them. My support bubble and I first met getting on for three decades ago but it was only last year that we became support bubbles. Always save the best till last.
