KANE UPS THE ANTE FOR LEVY

Spurs must tie down skipper

NOW we are all allowed to hug again Harry Kane could struggle to prise Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy off him.

For the 22nd time this season (32nd in all competitions) the England captain served notice of just why this summer’s transfer window will be a nervous one for Spurs fans.

Yet again, with his side’s collective back against the wall, Kane delivered.

And while the Spurs defence has lacked the consistency to ensure his goals are decisive in the race for the top four, Kane’s displays will ensure he remains in the shop window for some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

The Chingford marksman started the speculation himself two weeks ago with his comments about wanting team honours rather than Golden Boots.

His display againstWolves was a tour de force of forward play to lift Spurs above faltering West Ham into sixth.

Kane said: “It was a good performance. We controlled the game from start to finish but we needed that goal before half-time, and we came out for the second half with a real intensity to get the job done.”

“As a striker it’s nice to get goals, but the most important thing is that we start off a busy week with a win.We just need to win our games and see where we end up.”

But their third win in four league games is probably too late to earn a return to the Champions League.

Spurs need quality summer reinforcements at centre-back, in goal and up front. Kane cannot do it all. Neither can Levy be blamed for the failure of some players to stand up to be counted. A win against a Wolves side with their flip flops on is one thing, showing the same desire as the teams fighting for their lives is another.

While Kane remains we should cherish him. He has been directly involved in more Premier League goals than any other player this season, netting 22 goals and assisting 13.

Kane raced onto a ball from Pierre Hojbjerg, shrugged off three defenders and rounded the keeper to tap into an empty net.
