Sarah’s killer makes a case for the noose

-

AFTER the conclusion of the appalling Sarah Everard murder case it amazes me how the police suddenly come up with proposals to improve the situation. Why weren’t their leaders doing this already? How many more times is Cressida Dick, the boss of the Metropolitan Police, going to fail to resign because, quite frankly, if a single person claiming to be a cop wants to stop me – even if they have a warrant card or a uniform – I shall be running the other way.

I never thought it was a good idea for police to patrol on their own. We have an epidemic in this country of violent knife crime amongst young guys who never seem to get sent to prison, who just get a warning and a confiscation of their weapons, so lone police officers are not safe.

There is an even bigger epidemic of violence against women and the inability of police forces to properly investigate, or to even properly vet those joining their ranks, is very worrying.

Which brings me to my main point.A man like this grotesque creature Wayne Couzens reignites the whole debate about capital punishment, doesn’t he? The majority of people in this country believe the death penalty would be a deterrent.

I think it would certainly make some would-be perpetrators think, and give judges an option in situations like this where there is no doubt at all about guilt. Never mind a whole-life sentence, how about an end-of-life sentence?

IT MAY have been last week but I really cannot write this column without referring to Angela Rayner.

I’m sure Boris and others will let her “scum” comment wash over their heads but it just shows the kind of people who are becoming Members of Parliament.

Yes, I might use such terms on my radio show. I hate the description “shock jock” but, after all, I am what people refer to as fairly tabloid and it gets the message across. But if I were a politician trying to inform the nation of how I was going to look after them if they elected me I really do think I would try to give a better impression.

Let’s face it, the current Labour front bench is never going to be in government and the way they continue to show themselves up means that we will have an inept opposition for some time to come.

Sadly, that doesn’t help the Government to govern to the best of their ability.

Angela, maybe you should think of a different career.

SMART MOTORWAYS. Are they not the most ridiculous idea ever?

How can getting rid of the hard shoulder be “smart”? How can installing cameras that don’t work be smart?

The fact that people have lost their lives because of the idiots who came up with this idea makes it even worse than “not smart”: it’s an appallingly stupid idea.

Why are the people responsible not brought to account? I suppose they’ll be moved sideways. That’s what happens, isn’t it, when you’re one of the faceless bureaucrats who sit round desks coming up with so-called smart ideas.
