Triathlete Darcy is seen here rescuing a dog that had fallen through ice on a frozen lake. He was halfway through a 10-mile run when he heard the owner’s screams.

An experience­d cold-water swimmer, he smashed his way through the ice in Pontefract Park,West Yorkshire, and saved the stricken animal. After returning the dog to its owner, Darcy, 31, of nearby Feathersto­ne, carried on with his run. Passerby Paula Town caught the amazing rescue on video and posted it online.

Darcy said: “I decided to carry on running the next five miles, so my body could warm itself up. I didn’t think anything of it until people started telling me they saw the rescue on social media.”

Dad Artan saved the life of his neighbour’s six-year-old son from a ferocious pitbull dog attack.Artan, 31, of Dagenham, East London, freed Arjun Grewal from the jaws of the dog.The father-of-five was badly injured and suffered trauma attacks.

Arjun was mauled as he walked home from school.Artan said: “Eventually I hit the dog with a bin and it backed off,” he said. “I raced to my house clutching Arjun who was bleeding badly but the dog came at us again. I managed to make it inside and slammed the door shut.”

AWeymouth fishing boat skipper saved the life of his teenage crew member when their boat capsized under a strong wave off Portland Bill.

David, 46, had to free himself from his inflated life jacket and swim out of the submerged wheelhouse to the surface to rescue 18-year-old Jordan Coulter. “It was just like in the film Titanic when the cabin quickly fills up with water. I knew I had to get out but my main thought was for Jordan,” said David.

Luckily Jordan had followed his skipper’s orders to cling on to the boat. David managed to retrieve the life raft and drag Jordan onto it.They drifted for about eight miles before being rescued by a Royal Navy ship.
