Thin blue whine! Officer curses driver for parking near camera

- By Chris Riches

A TRAFFIC officer is being investigated after he swore at a motorist who parked in the way of his mobile speed camera.

Mark Light stopped his Transit van on New Brighton Beach promenade to enjoy the sea view.

But the joiner was approached by an “aggressive” officer from Merseyside Police’s Safer Roads Unit who attacked him verbally for obstructing the road.

‘Jobsworth’

He called Mr Light – who had parked legally – “a **** ing a***”, as the 41-year-old filmed him.

Merseyside Police said the “altercation” was being investigated by its professional standards department and the officer had been “spoken to”.

Mr Light said: “You can’t speak to members of the public like that. It doesn’t matter if you’re police or not.

“He was quite aggressive. He must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed. I just pulled up behind him to chill out and admire the view.

“He just came out shouting, ‘You best **** ing move’. I started filming. I wanted to know who he was because of the way he was speaking to me.

“He’ll probably be embarrassed when he looks back on it. He could have just moved his van. Afterwards, I got in my van, but thought, ‘I’m not going straight away’. I was quite annoyed.

“If it was coned off it’s a different story but I was allowed to park there.”

The video has since been shared widely online, with comments calling the officer a “jobsworth”. Phil Burkhill said: “Completely lost it!!”

Merseyside Police said: “We demand the highest possible standards of behaviour from our officers.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
