Schopp horror – and knives are out after loss to Blades

- ROSS HEPPENSTALL

BARNSLEY 2 SHEFFIELD UNITED 3

MARKUS SCHOPP is on the brink at Barnsley after being subjected to vicious abuse from his own fans during this latest horror show.

The 47-year-old Austrian was appointed in the summer after Valerien Ismael jumped ship for West Brom.

But Barnsley have won only once all season and defeat here marked a sixth straight loss – extending the Tykes’ winless run to 12 games and leaving them second bottom.

Asked if he expected to be in charge for Saturday’s game at Bristol City, Schopp said: “I am right now the coach of Barnsley.

“I know I am responsible for this situation and I totally understand this [criticism] from the fans but I’m trying to find solutions.” Sheffield United took control with two goals in three minutes from Lys Mousset, below, soon after the interval. Ben Osborn made it 3-0 before Devante Cole and Aaron Leya Iseka struck late on for the Tykes. Schopp surely cannot survive, with the Barnsley fans calling repeatedly for his head during the game, chanting “You’re getting sacked in the morning” and “Markus, time to go”. This was more of a resignation letter than a performance.
