Christmas dinner is served... in a tin of soup

- By Josie Clarke

SHATTERED shoppers fretting over hard to find turkey, pigs in blankets and all the Christmas trimmings need queue no more.

Heinz has launched a Christmas lunch in a can to beat supermarket shortages.

The brand boasts its Christmas Dinner Big Soup contains “big chunks” of turkey, Brussels sprouts, stuffing balls, pigs in blankets and roast potatoes, with a gravy and cranberry sauce.

But in the spirit of the rest of post-Covid festivities, supplies are sadly limited.

Just 500 cans will be produced this year and sold online – though Heinz has hinted it could roll the line out in greater numbers next year if it proves a success.

Meanwhile, a survey of 2,027 people for the food firm suggests 36 per cent of those who celebrate Christmas prefer traditional roast turkey dinners to any other meal.

And some 42 per cent said they would eat it more often if it did not take so long to cook, while 36 per cent would have it more if it was not so expensive.

Anke von Hanstein, brand manager for Heinz Soups, said: “We are so excited for the lucky 500 people to try this sensational seasonal addition to Heinz’s Big Soup family.

“It is made for those with a big love for hearty festive flavours and tastes just perfect with a slice of warm crusty bread. Any soup that includes pigs in blankets and roasties is a winner in our eyes.

“If the lucky few... love it as much as we do, Christmas Dinner Big Soup might be back next year, bigger and better.”

Costing £1.50 plus p&p, cans can be bought at Heinztohome.co.uk/Christmas from today.
