‘Penny is an evil monster ...she bullied my brother’

Heartbroken sister slams killer wife of retired colonel

- By Martin Fricker

THE sister of the retired colonel murdered by his wife Penelope Jackson has described her as an “evil monster” and controlling bully.

Jackson, 66, repeatedly stabbed her husband David, 78, before telling a 999 operator: “I thought I’d got him in the heart, but he hasn’t got one.”

She was jailed for a minimum of 18 years on Friday after jurors rejected her claim that the killing followed decades of abuse.

David’s heartbroken sister Jennifer said he had been the target of belittling put-downs for years.

She said: “There was only one bully in the relationship and it was Penny. She’s an evil monster. She was always a cold and callous woman.

“She drank lots of white wine and would just start on him. She would bully and belittle him, putting him down, making all the decisions.

“She was not a victim of domestic abuse, he was.

“My brother was too proud to admit she bullied him and walked away. I hope she never walks free.”

But Alan Jackson, David’s 75-year-old brother, spoke out in defence of his sister-in-law, right. He said David was an “arrogant bully” who could be “very violent” after a drink and hid his true personality behind a “Mr Nice Guy” mask. Bristol Crown Court heard Jackson killed David, her fourth husband, in February after they rowed over a dish of bubble and squeak she served at a virtual dinner.

When Jackson was arrested in her pyjamas outside their home in Berrow, Somerset, she told police her husband had “got everything he deserved”. The pair’s relationship began as an affair on an Army base. Soon after discovering his wife’s infidelity, Jackson’s third husband, Alan Warrender, killed himself. Her lawyers are expected to appeal her conviction.
