Pep more worried by Bruges than United
PEP GUARDIOLA says the clash with Club Bruges is “much more important” than the Manchester derby on Saturday.
Manchester City walloped Bruges 5-1 away two weeks ago and are favourites to win at home tonight.
“This is much more important than the United game,” said Guardiola.
“This game gives us an incredible step forward, a chance to qualify for the last 16.
“In the Premier League, there are many games. Here there are just three left – not much – and they are decisive.
“Game three and game four are the most important.”
The
City boss has watched video of the 5-1 win and concluded his players must get better defensively.
He said: “I see the team doing many good things.
“At the same time we are still making mistakes, not individually but collectively, and we have to improve defensively.
“Offensively, we did it but defensively we were not really good and that’s why we always have the feeling we can do better.” Defender Kyle Walker says England team-mate Jack Grealish will soon deliver for City the way he does for the Three Lions.
Grealish has had a slow start since his British record £100million move, the playmaker scoring twice and making three assists in his 14 appearances.
“We’ve all seen over the last number of years just what Jack can do,” saidWalker.
“He has come into a new team with a new philosophy and different style of play and different players. People take time, people can react in different ways. But the talent is there, he shows it day-in, day-out in training.
“I’ve had the pleasure to play with him at international level and the way he keeps the ball, his dribbling, attracting defenders, drawing fouls, he’s great to watch. Let’s just give him time.”
