Starstruck Thomas aims to get job done for Bale
NEW Wales star Sorba Thomas says they must ensure Gareth Bale’s special night doesn’t fall flat.
Huddersfield winger Thomas won his first two international caps for Wales last month.
The star needs another 97 to match captain and record scorer Bale, who is set to win his 100th tomorrow when Belarus visit.
Wales need four points from their final twoWorld Cup qualifiers against Belarus and Belgium on Tuesday to secure second place but they are officially guaranteed at least a place in theWorld Cup play-offs after Spain beat Greece 1-0 last night.
Thomas says Rob Page’s men are motivated to keep their qualification bid on track and ensure
Bale’s century isn’t wrecked.
Thomas said: “It is a massive moment for Gareth. We don’t want it to be that he remembers it for being his 100th cap but then we go and lose to Belarus.
“We are going to use that as massive motivation. For us it is about creating moments.”
Thomas came off the bench in a 2-2 draw in the Czech Republic before playing the entire game in the 1-0 win over Estonia.
It was the latest step in an incredible journey after he was signed by Championship Huddersfield from National League side BorehamWood in January.
He admitted to being starstruck meeting Aaron Ramsey at the lastWales’ camp and says training alongside Real Madrid ace Bale, above, has been eye-opening.
Thomas said: “He is a top guy and a legend here. Gareth has won Champions Leagues and La Liga.
“I watched him in training and take bits of his game to try to add to mine.”
Thomas says it is important everyone contributes against the Group E basement side.
