Revealed...the best places to eat in UK
IF YOU are thinking of having a fancy lunch somewhere with all that pent-up Covid cash, then look no further than The Restaurant Guide 2022.
It’s essential reading for gourmands and is eagerly anticipated after the pandemic put paid to last year’s planned edition – the first time in 50 years no guide made it to the bookshelves.
The AA guide showcases the best of British with the inclusion of 1,700 restaurants, including 100 new entries picked for their “culinary excellence”.
There are 17 with five rosettes – lauded as the “pinnacle of world cooking”.
Among the venues included is Hambleton Hall, in Oakham, Rutland – described as a “handsome country house hotel with gardens and grounds surrounded by Rutland Water”.
Aaron Patterson, head chef at the four-rosette establishment, curates dishes with a “focus on the best local produce” to create the likes of terrine of heritage carrot and lasagne of girolle mushrooms with Iberico ham and grappa sauce.
Luxurious
Also awarded four rosettes is Paul Ainsworth at No 6 in the Cornish town of Padstow. The AA said it delivers: “muscular layers of flavour and texture”.
London’s Clos Maggiore, with three rosettes, is highlighted as an ideal “romantic spot” with its “French dishes inspired by Provencal and
Italian cuisine, achieving big, clear flavours”. Acleaf, in Plymouth, which has three rosettes, is located in the historic Boringdon Hall – a “splendidly luxurious setting for inventively stylish cooking”.
Head chef Scott Paton creates menus featuring dishes such as “precisely cut duck terrine with quince or a plate of turbot and mussels with bags of flavour”.
Patrons can also look forward to “the very best in contemporary British cuisine” at Hrishi at Gilpin Hotel & Lake House, Windermere, Cumbria, according to the AA.
The Ribble Valley’s Northcote Restaurant’s chef Lisa GoodwinAllen interprets classic dishes with a “definite Lancashire accent”. The four-rosette restaurant is: “one of the best places to eat in the North”.
The Restaurant Guide 2022 is available for £16.99 in bookshops and online.
