Our hearts are broken... family’s anguish after boy, 10, killed by ‘pitbull’

- By Ted Hennessey

THE family of 10-year-old Jack Lis have spoken of their agony after he was killed by dog at the home of a friend.

Jack was mauled to death on Monday.

In a statement released yesterday his family said: “Our lives will never be the same without Jack. This is not something any parent should ever be writing.

“We have so many words we want to say about our beautiful boy, but they do not seem enough. We love him more than words can describe.

“Our boy made us the proudest parents and family on the planet. He was the sweetest of boys.

“We will forever miss his quirky ways and stories. He’s forever in our hearts. Sweet dreams Jack, our perfect boy.”

Gwent Police said the pitbull-type dog, said to be called Beast and weigh eight stone, was 15 months old. They are still

working to identify the breed to see if it is allowed in the UK.

It was shot dead by police marksmen on Monday after they were called to the village of Pentwyn, South Wales, at around 3.55pm following reports of a dog attack.

Jack and his friend were alone when it happened.

His pal asked a neighbour several doors down for help but the man was unable to stop the dog. Paramedics arrived just before 4pm but could not save the schoolboy. At the opening of the inquest at Newport

Coroner’s Court yesterday, the provisional cause of death was given as “severe injuries to the head and neck”.

The dog had reportedly recently been sold by its last owner.

Chief Superintendent Mark Hobrough said: “The work to identify the breed of dog continues.

“Once this is completed, we will be able to establish if the breed features on the list of illegal dogs to own in this country.

“Any other criminal offences identified will be investigated fully.”

He also cautioned: “It is important people think about how their social media comments or posts could impact the investigation, and Jack’s grieving family.”

A 28-year-old woman arrested in connection with the attack has been bailed.

Two men, aged 19 and 34, were also released after voluntarily speaking to police.
