THE POSITIVE PROFESSOR
I FIND myself increasingly unsurprised by the attempts of certain governments to control this virus, but what Austria is implementing is shocking – for both ethics and effectiveness.
They are implementing a “lockdown” for the unvaccinated, whereby those without their jabs are forced to stay home unless it's for an essential reason.
It's madness. I'm triple vaccinated and I know I can catch and spread this disease. Literally locking the unvaccinated out of society won't stop the infections.
The Dutch are reinforcing measures for all people which, although it makes more sense, is not a route countries should be going down, in my view.
If a country is forced into lockdown this winter, then that will happen every single winter. What would be different next year? Or the year after? This will never end.
Immunity
Some will argue that we can get more people vaccinated, but the ceiling on that is about as high as we can go realistically. We know that immunity can wane, especially for the elderly and vulnerable, so the new focus should be protecting those groups.
There is always going to be a
pocket of people that refuse the vaccine. I'm not sure spending too much time and effort on reversing their opinion is worthwhile. They've made their decision, leave them to it.
Our Government is being rational at the moment about the Covid situation. The numbers are going up and down, as to be expected, but no rash decisions are being taken and there seems to be an understanding of the pain that new restrictive measures will bring. This is learning to live with the virus.
I hope we can say the same in a month or two.
Time will tell.
