Prue’s film debut with the Rock ...and a Freddie Mercury cake

- By Tom Bryant

PRUE Leith has made her film debut – alongside Hollywood’s The Rock and Ryan Reynolds.

The 81-year-old TV chef appears in the movie Red Notice, which also stars Wonder Woman’s Gal Gadot, and broke Netflix’s record for most views on the day of release.

Gadot’s character is seen watching The Great British Bake Off on television during one scene, with presenter Leith seen devouring the famous Freddie Mercury cake during the 2020 series.

Red Notice is thought to be the streaming service’s most expensive film – with a reported budget of £145million. Reynolds remarked: “Netflix biggest ever opening. Congrats to this whole team.”

The action-comedy has Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, 49, as an FBI profiler with Reynolds, 45, portraying an art thief. They team up to try to take down The Bishop, who is the world’s greatest art thief, played by Gadot, 36.

Prue Leith is not the only household name making a cameo in Red Notice – with singer Ed Sheeran also appearing as himself in the film that was released on Friday.

The role for Sheeran, 30, follows his panned Game Of Thrones acting debut as well as his equally wooden turn in the 2019 film Yesterday. But director Rawson Marshall Thurber insisted Sheeran’s cameo is “my favourite part of the movie”. He added: “Ed, from the very first pitch, was who I wanted. I had a mutual friend who put us in touch and I emailed Ed, who is the loveliest person on the planet.

“I sent him a picture of my book when I was writing the pitch. It had his name in it so he knew I wasn’t fooling.” Thurber outlined the singer’s response, claiming: “Ed said, ‘The weirder, the better’.” He added Sheeran had a “couple of one-liners that he wanted to try and we ended up with a nice balance”.
