I’M A Celebrity’s Richard Madeley faced a filthy Castle Kitchen Nightmare last night – before the ITV show became awash with soap stars.
The presenter was plunged into a sewer filled with rotten fruit and veg and was pelted with fish guts and offal as he struggled to find stars hidden in the grime.
But there will now be more soap on the ITV show – with the arrival of EastEnder Adam Woodyatt and Coronation Street’s Simon Gregson.
They join Emmerdale star Danny Miller, who is already in the I’m A Celeb castle.
Both of the latecomers hope to show viewers who they really are away from their soaps.
Adam, 53, who played Walford whinger Ian Beale for three decades, said: “Everyone thinks I am Ian Beale and so it’s going to be great to show I am not.
“That was a character I played. I don’t think I’m like him. It’s for other people to judge what sort of person I am. I’m just me.”
Adam, who filmed his last EastEnders scenes a year ago, doesn’t know if he will return to Albert Square. He said: “It’s not just my decision. It’s a BBC decision. It’s a timing decision.There’s lots of factors that come into it.” He was looking forward to his time in the castle and said: “I’m going in there to just enjoy myself, to challenge myself and to have a laugh.
“Look, if I go a long way in it, great. If I don’t, c’est la vie. I can still say I’ve done it.”
But he is hoping to avoid some tasks.
He said: “I won’t be good if anything involves physical strength... And anything involved in swimming – I’m not a brilliant swimmer.”
Simon, 47, hopes viewers find him smarter than his Corrie character, Steve McDonald.
He said: “I probably wouldn’t do half the things that idiot does – and he wouldn’t do half the things I do.
“It would be nice for people to see I’ve got a modicum more of intelligence than Steve.
“Hopefully that’ll come across if I’m not too nervous. I’m pretty calm at the moment but I’m sure all that will change.
“Best not to think about it at all until the moment you’re doing it... what’s the point in worrying twice?” ●●I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! is on ITV tonight at 9pm.
